About this place
Along Ome Kaido, Fujinoya serves old-fashioned rice bowls and other filling favourites. The katsudon is particularly well regarded: seasoned meat and onion are simmered with egg in a sweet-and-savoury broth that seeps right down through the rice. The generous portion of fluffy white rice absorbs the broth, making this a piping-hot bowl to enjoy to the last bite.
Another popular choice is omurice, with moist chicken rice neatly wrapped in a thin omelette. The menu also includes hearty Japanese diner staples such as peppery, fried-rice-style chahan, katsu curry and noodle dishes like tanmen. Choosing what to have as a main dish is part of the pleasure.
There is plenty to choose from among the set meals, too, including grilled meat with crisp, sweet vegetables, a mixed-fry plate of freshly fried chicken and menchi-katsu, and a service set served with pickles or chilled tofu. Add miso soup or pork soup for an easygoing lunch or dinner, whether dining alone or with company.
